
Ergin Varlibas is an Istanbul born light artist but considers himself as a citizen of the world, belonging to no single place. After finishing middle school in Istanbul he proceeded with his studies in the Italian canton of Switzerland, in a beautiful city called Lugano for 4 years. Then he got his bachelor in Economics in London. Growing up in different places of the world at early age broadened his vision in life immensely. Throughout his studies, the choice of extra credit courses were always about art. These include manual photography to sketching, art history to painting, screenwriting to acting; He indeed was always part of the art world.
Ergin’s art is somewhat of a reflection of his own character; amorous, playful, colorful and spiritual. His conceptual, self-referential neons and installations; explores the role of signs, shapes and language in art. He pays attention to the fact that his works are remembered at first sight, and that the viewer finds their own meaning, and aims that his art reaches the emotions of people in a colorful and eye-catching way.
His art is dominantly neon lights but he also does photography, installations and a video arts. Ergin Varlibas also has a persona called No Basic which he mostly uses to DJ around the globe. No Basic is his artist identity and a stance. He played in the most famous clubs in Turkey and many places in Europe, including Ibiza.
In addition, Ergin is someone who gives importance to spirituality. He is a meditation guru and tries to use this spiritual side of him in his works in some way. For example, he loaded the ‘Evil Eye’ Talismans with protective energies using mantras. Ergin Varlibas is a multidisciplinary artist who constantly tries to improve himself in every way of life.
Throughout his art career, his works were exhibited in Artweeks Akaretler in Istanbul recently with renowned Merkür Gallery. He is now also linked with an art gallery in Dubai and plans to do a solo exhibition there towards the end of this year.
He did his first solo exhibition at the revered Ekavary gallery at Ritz Carlton called “Weather Forecast: Downpour Love”
