Ergİn Varlıbaş, ‘Hava Durumu: Sağanak Aşklı’ / February 11 – March 15

EKAV / Education, Culture, and Research Foundation is hosting multidisciplinary artist Ergin Varlıbaş’s solo exhibition titled “Weather Forecast: Downpour Love,” curated by Burcu Ölmez, at Ekavart Gallery from February 11 to March 15, 2025.

Love sometimes caresses our soul like a light breeze, and sometimes envelops our entire being like a sudden downpour. In his exhibition “Weather Forecast: Downpour Love,” Ergin Varlıbaş presents this emotional intensity to art lovers through the energy of neon lights and the harmony of various materials.

Love, one of the most powerful themes in art history, has been depicted in many works, from Dante’s mystical admiration for Beatrice to Frida Kahlo’s passionate letters to Diego Rivera, to Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece “The Kiss.” Varlıbaş takes this universal emotion beyond classical expression, reinterpreting love in a modern language.

Combining the striking effect of neon lights with different materials in his works, the artist invites the viewer to discover the emotional and philosophical layers of love. Reminiscent of Victor Hugo’s words, “Love is a force that can extinguish even the sun,” this exhibition addresses the energy and complexity of love from a multidimensional perspective.

The “Mold” series featured in the exhibition is also noteworthy. Inspired by the mold patterns on the walls of an abandoned building, the artist elegantly visualizes the cycle of transformation and renewal in life. Mold is not only a sign of decay but also a manifestation of nature’s own…
